Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Planning Workshop

In partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Local Government of Iligan through the Iligan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (ICDRRMC), will conduct a Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Planning Workshop on July 10-12, 2012 at Crystal Inn, Barangay, Barangay San Miguel,  Iligan City.

The four (4) areas of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management will be tackled during the 3-day workshop are the following :

1.  Disaster Prevention and Mitigation
2.  Disaster Preparedness
3.  Disaster Response
4.  Rehabilitation and Recovery

The workshop aims to :



1.  Develop a common understanding among the Iligan City constituency and concerned stakeholders on the basic concepts of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation, the Philippine Disaster  Risk Reduction and Management Law and Framework and other local policies and instruments that may have implications to risk reduction and building community resilience.

2.  Understanding the hazard profile of Iligan City and utilize such information as a key basis and reference for developing the DRRM Plan.

3.  Present and level-off among the city's constituency the state of Iligan City's DRRM infrastructure and capacities.

4.  Building on the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan and Framework, agree on the Iligan City's DRRM Framework and the key parameters of the Local DRRM Plan and define key priority areas, outcomes and outputs of the four (4) Pillars of Prevention and Mitigation, Preparedness, Response and Recovery and Rehabilitation which will become the basis and substance of the preparation of the full DRRM Plan.

             - Hazard Profile of Iligan
             - Global, National and Local Climate Change Scenarios and its Corresponding Climate Threat to Mindanao
             -  Reflecting on the Iligan City Response on TS Sendong:  Identifying Issues and Challenges
             -  Understanding Republic Act 10121 or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act 2010 and Internalizing  Basic Concepts of Disaster Risk Reduction
             -  Local Laws and Policies on the Environment and its Implication on DRR and CCA

Day 2   July 11, 2012
             -  Localizing RA 10121 - Getting to Know the Iligan City DRRMC and DRRMO
             -  The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan (NDRRMP) 2011-2020
             -  DRR Best Practices:  The Albay Experience
       
Day 3   July 12, 2012
             -  Film Showing : The Role of the Community ad other Stakeholders in Disaster Risk Reduction
             -  Synthesis and Ways Forward
            

The output of the workshop will be an input to the Comprehensive Land Use Plan or CLUP and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan.
